Thank You

So, our W event is over... Sadly not a lot of people knew what it was. This blog was not as widely publicised as we hoped it would be...

But nonetheless, we would like to thank YOU for supporting us. Thank you to all who came and bought stuff, like bubble tea, jelly, helium balloons! Kindly leave any comments if you have any constructive suggestions about what we could have done better!

Happening on 18th March 09, Wednesday at LT 14 (AS6), 6.30pm to 8.30pm. We have speakers from Prudential, People's Association, and Ministry of Education (MOE). Refreshments are provided after the talk.

What Is White Day

As you all know, NUS Sociology Society is having a stall along AS1 on 12th and 13th March 09 to celebrate White Day. Some of you have been asking, "What is White Day? Why is the guy stalking the girl?"

White Day in Japan

In Japan, Valentine's Day, 14th Feb, is celebrated by females who will present chocolate gifts, etc, to males, as an expression of love (or friendship). On White Day, which is exactly one month later, the opposite happens; males who had received such "honmei-choco" or "chocolates of love" are expected to reciprocate by giving gifts to the females, and the gifts are usually more expensive.

Origins

White Day was started by the National Confectionery Industry Association in Japan in 1978 as an "answer day" to Valentine's Day on the grounds that the men should give back to the women who gave them gifts.

Although White Day is not as recognised or celebrated as Valentine's Day in Singapore and in NUS, it is still a good time to express some love, or even friendship! Of course, don't go around stalking girls! (By right there should be no stalking involved in White Day, the video was just an exaggeration)

So come on down to our booth along AS1 walkway on 12th and 13th March, from 11am to 3pm and perhaps buy some lovely helium balloons for your friends and loved ones! Hungry? Thirsty? We also have delicious konnyaku jelly and oh-so-sweet bubble tea on sale! See you there! =D
